Why a GoPro is Better Than Your Boyfriend on Vacation

I’m all about solo travel, however, life on the road can get lonely. But have no fear single ladies — with social media and technology, we are never alone.

For my recent trip to Cancun, Mexico I was lucky enough to have a boyfriend of sorts document all the activities at the JW Marriott Cancun Resort & Spa and Xplor Parks. What I loved about this boyfriend is that he is relatively straightforward, easy to figure out, and I wouldn’t mind introducing him to my parents. His name is GoPro (did you know he’s the latest “Hero?”). Let’s call him GP for short. He fits in my pocket and we did everything together. Here are the spring break adventures of GoPro and Ko, all caught on camera and 10 show-and-tell reasons GP is a great vacation boyfriend.
 1. GoPro seems to always make you look good. I am the heaviest I have been in my life, but I’m convinced something about seeing through these lens at any angle will make any gal look 10 pounds lighter! Plus, you don’t have to worry about how long GP’s holding its breath underwater.
 2. There’s an app to control your (GoPro) boyfriend. No, seriously, the app lets you be the director in the relationship. You can preview what you’ll shoot and review the pics right after (pro tip: I’m hiding the phone in my right hand to record). Don’t we wish all partners had a button to be a source of wireless connectivity and carried photographic memory storage capabilities?
 3. It never forgets the special moments that make a vacation count. It will wake up early with you to watch the sun rise. GoPro will even chill on the sand and time you as you do sun salutations on the beach and watch your postures. Namaste!
 4. It watches your stuff without a doubt or a sigh, a noise or a flash (if you want to adjust the settings). You can turn your GoPro into a discreet surveillance camera while you’re napping in a hammock or beach chair. Even if a thief runs away with your stuff, you’ve got evidence that catches him or her red-handed. BOOM.
 5. It doesn’t get car sick. You don’t have to fight over the driver’s seat or be bumped to passenger. GoPro’s just clamped along for the ride without any complaints. You can drive as fast or as slow as you want and sing as loud as your heart desires.
 6. It doesn’t get jealous of you spending time with others. Sometimes you make new friends. GP is willing to “hang” out as the third wheel and allow for the friendship to make a splash. It can also make you forget it’s there by being strapped on to your chest or head.
 7. GoPro is not scared of heights and gives you one more reason to be courageous. It will not be scared to take the plunge. Its ability to get on burst mode helps you pick out the perfect freeze frame for Instagram, so you don’t have to get climb and jump several times. Who else is going to fly with and take your picture right next to you? Now that’s commitment!
 8. It is thoughtful and doesn’t take up space. You can have the double floatie all to yourself and leisurely make your way down the river. And no need to worry on vacation — GP holds in its own special floating case.
 9. GP doesn’t miss a beat cause it’s always there. You will never be alone swimming in a cave full of bats above your head with GP around — he listens to every sound with you, including the flapping of wings alongside your gasps, ooh’s and aah’s.
 10. GP takes audio notes for you as you watch a chef make ceviche. And then, you don’t have to share your meal or make small talk. It takes foodie pics for you and your Facebook friends.
 11. GoPro really captures the mood. There’s a night light feature/option that makes any evening look and feel extra romantic. If a picture is worth a thousand words, there’s plenty of material in this dramatic photo diary. GP will even watch you as you sleep and monitor your movements (true story). Sweet dreams!
